SCS SB 289 -- GRAND JURY DUTIES

SPONSOR: Engler (Tilley)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Judiciary by a vote of 13 to 0.

This bill removes the requirement that grand juries inspect
public buildings and allows prosecutors to have discretion as to
whether a grand jury will inspect public buildings.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill gives prosecutors the
option to have grand juries inspect public buildings but does not
require them to do so.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Engler; Missouri Bar; and
Supreme Court of Missouri.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
